Sulfoxide as a new solution for accessing original chiral molecules via C-H activation


Abstract:

Over the last decade C-H activation has become one of the most rapidly expanding fields of organic chemistry and homogenous catalysis as it paves the way towards sustainable synthesis of complex molecular scaffolds. Due to the “C-H activation rush”, direct functionalization is now a truly established tool for modern organic synthesis. However, stereoselective C-H activation is still a clearly underdeveloped topic. Following this challenging goal, SynCat group in UMR 7509 focuses on design of original, sulfoxide-directed diastereoselective transformations allowing synthesis of an array of both, aromatic and aliphatic chiral compounds by means of direct functionalization. Besides, we have also discovered that the sulfoxide moiety can be astutely used to allow the first atroposelective C-N coupling between iodanes and amine coupling partners.

Finally, metal-free C-H activation reactions occurring via visible-light photocatalysis will be discussed briefly.
